The Caldecott Medal is intended to honor the best picture book of the year. In 2011  the winner was most deserving.  "A SICK DAY FOR AMOS MCGEE" is by Phillip C. Stead and illustrated by his wife, Erin E. Stead.  When the friendly zookeeper gets sick, the animals take care of him.  Three to eight years.

The Caldecott Medal for 2012 is "BALL FOR DAISY" By Chris Raschka. This is a wordless picture book that shows a joyful dog playing with a ball until another dog bites and deflates it.  But all is well in the end.  It was sold out everywhere for a while, but we have it now.

On order is PERPLEXUS the bendy-trendy can't put it down challenge that received a rave from "The Washington Post." Six years and up.

And for kids eight years and up, we have the popular HEXBUG ANT coming soon. It's a tiny battery-powered robot with batteries included.

Story Time is up and running starting January 2013.  The talented Ms. Laura  reads to the kids, Mondays and Fridays from 10:30 to 11 am.  Please come in and join the fun.

Our terrific children's book department has quickly become one of the most popular sections in our store.  Many new titles will continue to arrive in the next few weeks. We   have some of the very best books in children's literature.

PLAN TOYS are here. This great line of wooden pre-school toys is made in Thailand. Plan is "green" in that their line is made from rubber trees used for making rubber products. Plan uses the leftover wood to make their wonderful all-wood toys.
